Cats were worshipped as Gods in Ancient Egypt and received the same mummification treatment as privileged humans after death. When a cat died, the occupants of the house where the cat had lived would go into a period of deep mourning and even shave their eyebrows as a mark of respect. It was also common practice to bury deceased cats with pots of milk and mummified mice to see them through to the afterlife.
